Beating the heat

Good grief, we have been having some hot days.  The kind of days where I don't even dry my hair, it just dries on its own and goes up into a ponytail, because what really is the point when it is 97 degrees outside with high humidity?  The kind of days where we are having to get creative on how to spend our days because we can't be outside for too long.

So, we have been spending a little more time on arts and crafts......

We head to the library and look at books and play in the comfort of air conditioning.  Kyla loves going to the library and thinks it is such a treat when I tell her that is where we are going.  It is a little bit of a challenge to contain Ashlyn in the library right now, but she sure loves it there too.

Here she is reading a book.  The whole library pretty much heard it reading it.  She isn't a quiet reader.

Kyla loves to pick out books and have me read them to her as soon as we pick them

Ashlyn's favorite part of the library.....wide open spaces to walk and walk and wave to everyone she sees.

 Enjoying the play area

Since it is so hot outside we decided to heat up our oven as well and make a pie.  Peach pie was our choice since peaches are so good right now and because I am married to a man who loves pie.  We decided to make one for daddy.

Ready to go in the oven

When Troy got home from work, Kyla ran to him and said, "Daddy, we made you a pie because we love you."  We know how to welcome home the man of our house around here.

The other day we got a very brief break from the heat with a few minutes of rain.  Kyla decided we should go out to the front porch to watch it......

and feel it.....

We were thankful for some water for our plants and a little cool down.  I have a feeling this week it will be back to beating the heat and we are thankful for that too.
